January 25th-31st gamers around the world celebrate Winter-een-mas, a gamer’s holiday initiated by Ethan from the Ctrl-alt-del web comic by Tim Buckley.
“It is a celebration of video games and the people that play them. Video games allow us to do things, go places, see stuff, that we couldn’t do in real life. They can be an escape from reality, a release after a long day, a fun activity with friends, or just an enjoyable way to pass time. They give us a lot of entertainment. So why shouldn’t they be celebrated?”
I know there’s a lot of people out there that are quite annoyed with the ctrl-alt-del web comic, I don’t read it anymore, but winter-een-mas is a holiday meant to celebrate video games and we love taking any opportunity to celebrate gaming! The way we Geeky Gals do that is by throwing a gaming weekend together where we try to complete as many games as possible 🙂 And that’s exactly what we did the last weekend of January 😀
This year we spent it at Heidi’s place and we played video games from Friday to Sunday, everything from Famicom and Super Nintendo to Xbox 360 and Xbox One ^_^ We made a setup of several gaming stations in the living room and each chose a few games we wanted to finish!
We stocked up on candy and snacks, made som nice dinners and spent the remaining time gaming 🙂 Becki managed to beat 4 games this weekend. She spent all her time on the XBONE and completed Bastion, Thomas was Alone, Never Alone and Toby The Secret Mine!
Heidi beat 5 games, on various systems. First up was 140 on Xbox One, then Robocco Wars on the Famicom, after that Asmikkun Land also on Famicom (which was an extremely frustrating game in the beginning!) Last day, through a joint effort from both Jinn and Heidi, we beat Yoshi’s Island on Super Famicom and Heidi also beat Sky Force on Xbox One before the day was over ^_^
Jinn struggled her way through Portal on Xbox 360, which she had never played before! We live streamed the final stage on instagram ^_^ Such a great game!
In total we managed to beat 10 games, and had a great weekend of companionship and gaming ❤ And we’re super happy that Hanna decided to join us occasionally during the weekend as well!
